Syncing external accounts to MyRoboAdviser™ is simple and easy. To sync an external account, log in from a web browser, scroll down on the home screen and click “Sync external accounts”. Enter your financial institution and follow the steps to link your account to MyRoboAdviser™.

All of your wealth in one place:
The primary advantage to syncing your external accounts to MyRoboAdviser™ is to see your combined asset allocation across all of your accounts. This capability will allow you to review your combined asset allocation and decide if you need to adjust certain accounts in order to reach your desired total portfolio asset allocation. Your different accounts should work in tandem with each other, thus the benefit of being able to see them all together cannot be overstated. Betterment, MyRoboAdviser’s custodian and technological partner, updates your synced account data automatically, every day, so you’ll always have the most current balances in the funds in which you’re invested.
In addition to investment accounts, you can sync your loan, mortgage, and credit card accounts you can also add any real estate assets or other property, for a full picture of your household balance sheet and total net worth.
Opportunities to grow idle cash:
For your synced accounts, you can now see where you’re holding onto too much cash. Betterment will classify any cash or cash-equivalent securities, including currencies and money market funds held in investment accounts as idle cash. Holding onto excess cash may reduce your investment returns over time.
More Personalized Advice:
Syncing your external accounts allows Betterment to tailor their advice specifically to you, and helps them keep that advice up-to-date. After you sync your external accounts, Betterment will be able to provide a suggested asset allocation in accordance with your goals that you enter into Betterment. Betterment will provide a judgement of whether you’re “on-track” or “off-track” based off your total portfolio as opposed to simply the assets in Betterment if you did not link any external accounts.
